IS-3 is a Soviet heavy tank, developed during World War II. It was mass-produced in last days of war , but missed the opportunity to take part in it. That is why usually this vehicle is called first of afterwar Soviet tanks. Abbreviation IS means Iosif Stalin. It was official name of Soviet heavy tank series of 1943'1945.
